OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
THE WINCHESTER CLUB
NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2024.

The months are certainly rushing by and before we know it the Easter Eggs will be on sale. I liked when all these much loved events came and went at the right time not months in advance! I think a lot of you will agree with me! Now as you know I’m not months ahead of myself and one of those reasons is that you will read this newsletter, (if I’m lucky) and promptly forget about its contents until the next month….

COMMITTEE NEWS.

Charity Quiz Night.
Thank you to all Members who supported the Quiz Night, and a Donation of £500.00 will be made to The Stroke Association. Donation Boxes will remain on the Bars until next year when another Charity will be chosen. So please donate any loose change (or even a note or two) that is in your purse or pocket.

CHRISTMAS DAY OPENING

Our Christmas Day opening hours are restricted because we are only licenced to serve between 12 and 3pm, and we rely on our Staff volunteering to work. The Christmas Dinner bookings are restricted by the numbers that can be served by Otelli’s Kitchen. They have 2 sittings and require at least an hour to clean up, which is why the Club will stay open until 5pm.However the Bar will stop serving Drinks at 3pm.

SMOKING
We would like the smokers to respect the non-smokers and refrain from smoking on the ramp area. If it is not raining we ask that smokers use the patio area.

FIRST AID COURSE.
The Committee are arranging to run a First Aid Course on 20th November, for the Staff and Committee Members. This will be a half day course and there are vacancies for members to attend. If you are interested in being a First Aider within the Club, then please contact Sue Green by email (fleabee1`@sky.com)

ENTERTAINMENT

Next year we will only have Music once a month. The reason is simply because of lack of interest. We can’t please everyone we know!! So we will be looking for more Tribute Acts, Country and Western, Soul, Disco etc, but we will still have our Favourites back. I have asked before if you would let me know what you would like ….only a couple of people responded. If you pop your signed request into the Members Box, I will see what I can do!!

Race Night was a success, in spite of a few hiccups! We are working on righting these and will be having another one very soon. Thanks to all of those who gave their time to help and those who attended.

I will finish by saying its good to see Donna and Tia back. Our Thanks to Nathan and Steve for ‘filling in”. Not forgetting Gary of course!

We are sorry to hear of the passing of one of our members, Dorrie Coombes.

That’s all for now.
